Next week is Public Service Recognition Week (PSRW) and GovLoop is teaming up with the Partnership for Public Service to promote PSRW by running a special series called “Meet the Government Mascot.” Each day we’ve been introducing you to a new mascot, then we’ll run a contest on May 6-8 where you can vote for your favorite.
Just because it’s the weekend doesn’t mean the mascots stop! Today’s mascot is actually a tandem:
Born down south in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Sammy and Ruby have been leading the charge in conservation. Started in 1968, Sammy has grown in popularity especially in the southeast, where there is actually a waiting list for high school students that want to play the role.
Since his arrival Sammy has helped kids understand the importance of taking care of nature through his Conservation Kids Club. Another one of Sammy’s claims to fame is his wildly suc
cessful coloring book which has sold over 50,000 copies. In fact Sammy was successful that the Hamilton County Soil Conservation District decided to give him a partner in crime: Ruby Raindrop.
Ruby is all about clean water. She is especially passionate about clean drinking water but still doesn’t ignore all the other things water can do.
Together Sammy and Ruby continue to remind people to clean a clean earth and conserve natural resources.
