Public Agencies Recognized for Exemplary Digital Communications

The Outreach & Impact Awards, designed to honor the best in digital communication in the public sector, were announced yesterday at GovDelivery’s 8th Annual Federal Communications Summit in Washington, D.C. The 2014 awards were given to four outstanding public agencies that use digital communications to drive public engagement and action:

The Maximizer Award honors organizations that substantially build audience reach and online communities by utilizing digital marketing best practices

Winner: Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) integrated multiple data sources to create a recipient list for its “Retirement Recap” newsletter and proactively communicate about retirement security. Advanced bulletin design, campaign tracking, and analytics through GovDelivery provide greater insight into the needs and behaviors of its customers and help maximize its audience.

The Designer Award honors organizations that highlight creative use of design and messaging to drive stakeholder action by influencing behavior or building public trust

Winner: DHS: Homeland Security Information Network (HSIN) used the GovDelivery Platform to make more information available to more homeland professionals. They did this through multiple publications and messages targeting specific audiences such as emergency services, law enforcement, intelligence, and defense. Creative email design and compelling content helped HSIN nearly double its reach in one year, averaging more than 1,200 new user each month.

The Integrator Award honors organizations that integrate, streamline, or automate personalized messaging to increase departmental efficiency, ROI, and influence behavior.

Winner: NIST: Baldrige Performance Excellence Program used GovDelivery to communicate with its partner network to recruit volunteer examiners and promote registration for its annual Quest for Excellence conference. Its partner network consists of more than 40 state and sector-specific organizations that cross-promote the program around the world. A combination of integrated multi-channel communications helped the program meet recruiting and registration goals and extend its reach to social media.

The Collaborator Award honors organizations that collaborate with others in the public sector to reach more people and incite action.

Winner: DOT: Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Through GovDelivery’s collaborative communications platform, NIC Technologies helped FMCSA grew its Pre-Employment Screening Program (PSP) employer user base by more than 1800%. Companies that regularly use PSP have, on average, reduced their crash rates by 8% and their driver out-of-service rates by 17%.

These public agencies are helping government shed its perception as clunky and outdated and push forward as leading innovators in service delivery and marketing technology.

Congratulations to this year’s winners!
