Change is hard, but as a leader, you can make transition easier for your team.
In the latest edition of Management Minutes With Mika, government workforce expert Mika Cross joins Lou Kerestesy, owner of Louis Coaching & Consulting, LLC, to share advice on creating a workplace culture that’s prepared for anything.
When asked how leaders could create a team culture that’s ready for change, Kerestesy explained that first, you must decide what culture is.
“My go-to definition is a ‘shared rationale for how employees do what they do,’” he said. “It’s important to have a conversation on the reasons why (things are done) so everyone is on the same page.”
In addition to coming to an understanding of culture with other employees, leaders need to help them work through their resistance to change, especially when it comes to a hybrid work environment.
“When there’s a resistance to change, you need to examine if you’re creating a culture where only some are consistently getting the benefits, and others are consistently paying the cost,” he said, adding that if some are regularly in a better position than others, it should be re-evaluated.
