On to the last session at the Cisco Government Solutions Forum, lots of great content today and lessons learned to share back with the GovLoop community.
The last session that I will be sitting in on is, Impacting Training & Development with Interactive Video..the Ripple Effect, this was part of the Mobile Collaboration track. Throughout this track Cisco explored how agencies can leverage technology to set up the right infrastructure for an increasingly mobile workforce. Fitting to the topic of this session, Lance Ford, Educational Technology Advocate, Cisco, held the session via telepresence.
I’ve never seen a panel presentation done through telepresence, so this was a fun session, and great showcase of how telepresence is impacting the workforce and education. Telepresence is a way to innovate and save. Through telepresence government agencies can train employees from any location, and easily connect with anyone one the planet.
Key Take- Aways from Session:
- Potential impacts for not just student, but also teacher
- Cost savings
- Distance education and training
- Far reaching impacts of telepresence in society
- How easily technology can be used to connect people, and the available technology
- Demonstrated showed that could connect on a mobile device as well
- Very easy screen sharing functionality
This session was a lot of fun to sit into. I took an online class a few years ago, and this kind of technology was in its nascent stage. The demonstration was connected over the hotel internet connect, and the video was crystal clear. Another great feature is that you can connect to the video on mobile or on a tablet, this was an incredible demonstration. This will be a fun technology to follow, and a great way to help government and organizations connect and adapt to an increasingly mobile workforce.

At GSF, Cisco and industry leaders will identify best practices how public sector agencies are effectively leveraging technology to improve operational efficiency, enable workforce productivity, and deliver measurable results. As we know, these three elements are something that public sector professionals are challenged with daily, and technology can be used to help combat the related operational and institutional hurdles that public agencies face.
