Over the past few months, we have all witnessed the dynamic efforts of public health personnel and healthcare workers to combat COVID-19. This crisis has also highlighted the need for collaboration, as many consulting and technology firms are providing public health personnel and healthcare workers with the innovative technology they need to carry out their missions.
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has established a wide-reaching AWS Partner Network (APN) over the years, and many APN Partners have supported frontline workers with technology that enables tracking of hospital and health care resources, analyzes utilization of those resources, and predicts where the next cluster of positive COVID-19 cases will be.
“Technology has proven to be instrumental in helping health care providers manage the COVID-19 response,” said Sandy Carter, Vice President, Worldwide Public Sector Partners and Programs, AWS. “Our AWS Partners are developing solutions that have had a significant impact on public sector organizations during the pandemic by supporting research and analysis, developing faster at-home testing abilities and more. I expect we’ll see even more innovation as health care providers continue to use the cloud to support their missions.”
The goal of these APN Partner solutions is to arm public health personnel and health care workers with timely information and analysis so they can shift from a reactive mode to a strategic mode, allowing them to better manage their patients, resources and workflow.
Cloud-based solutions will continue to be instrumental in helping health care providers manage the response to COVID-19. Here are a few examples of how APN Partners are providing that technology:
- Telehealth Communications Platform: Viz.ai, Inc., a leader in applied artificial intelligence in health care, developed a telehealth platform, Viz COVID-19, to meet the evolving needs of health care providers, physicians and patients who are on the frontlines of the COVID-19 crisis. Viz COVID-19 enables hospitals and providers to send positive COVID-19 test alerts, view radiographic images on a mobile phone, and remotely engage in secure team communication.
- Cybersecurity for Healthcare Systems: CyberMDX, a provider of cybersecurity solutions for healthcare systems, provides proactive cyber intelligence that keeps hospitals running smoothly by securing, managing and optimizing the use of healthcare assets. Their solutions support those on the frontlines with medical device identification, utilization reporting and optimization, suspicious activity monitoring and security policy planning.
- Telehealth Guidance Website: ECS supported the launch of the Health & Human Services telehealth website in the wake of COVID-19, with the goal of increasing the adoption of telehealth at a time when it is essential to protect the public. ECS supported the delivery of a website with unified, trustworthy information in plain language, offering guidance to physicians on how they can provide telehealth services while meeting the latest federal policies and regulations.
- Data Visualization and Integration: Esri, a leader in geographic information systems (GIS) software, is powering a solution that tracks the availability and utilization of hospital resources on a state and county basis across the U.S. Many localities have turned to Esri partner Definitive Healthcare’s USA Hospital Beds dataset as a baseline, using GIS to understand normal hospital bed utilization, intensive care unit (ICU) licensed beds, staffed beds and beds for hospitals across the US.
