The Veterans Affairs Department (VA) receives about 1.7 million forms each year from veterans applying for disability compensation and related benefits, while veterans must wait an average of 100 days for their forms to process.
A small team at the VA worked on a natural language processing program to update the processing of disability forms. The program returned a 92% accuracy during its final test, meaning that VA should save more than the $20 million leaders originally hoped for, and veterans will have to spend less time waiting for their forms to process.
