The Afghan Air Force received two new Lockheed Martin Hercules transport Aircraft on October 9 at Kabul International Airport.
The planes will initially be operated with assistance from NATO advisors and the two new plane will be joined by two more at a later date.
Afghan literacy rates, a lack of maintenance space, and a shortfall in the ground equipment that is supposed to be provided by the government are all seen as potential problems with maintaining the aircraft.
26 single-engine Cessna 208B Grand Caravan light transport and utility aircraft were meant to be the transport planes of the future for the Afghan Air Force.
