“Networking is an essential part of building wealth.” – Armstrong Williams
If you were to leave your job today, how fast do you think you could you get another one?
Well, if you knew the right people, it probably wouldn’t take you very long at all. The more contacts you have, the more likely you could tap those resources and land another job. The more people you know and the more people that know you increases your likelihood of finding another job. That’s why it’s important to nurture your contacts and keep up with them throughout your professional career. Never burn bridges with people because you never know where you or they will end up.
An excellent tool to keep you in the career loop is the social network called LinkedIn. It is essentially “six degrees of separation” for your job search. Just supply LinkedIn with the name of an employer, and it returns to you the closest connections you have to someone who works there.
I absolutely love LinkedIn. Be sure to contact me at http://www.linkedin.com/in/meikopatton. LinkedIn is great because you are constantly connecting with people. Nothing is more important than building relationships. Your inner circle of contacts can also help you get promoted. If you are doing a stellar job at your company, not only will your senior managers notice, your circle of contacts will as well. And if there is a big project that needs to be done and they ask your contacts for possible names, yours could be on the tip of their tongue. Never underestimate the power of performing excellent work.
