The biggest problem I have had within my organization for not implementing social media is resources. Due to the small size of our Web Services Staff, we have been unable to implement all the social media avenues we have wanted to. When management decides we need to use a certain type of social media on our websites, they do not always realize what that actually entails. It is not the technology that is the roadblock or the resource hog, but the policies that need to be written and approved and the moderation that needs to occur after the channels go live. Our small staff manages the public site and all content (due to the lack of a content management system), an Intranet, and a couple Extranets. We have started looking for business partners within the organization to work with us to set up various social media channels. We do the branding and setting up of the channels, and they take over moderation of the blogs.
