I know it has been some time since the American Public Health Association had their annual meeting in Colorado last November, but I am just getting around to watching a video of Dr. Cornel West’s opening session talk.
Wow.
I don’t believe I have ever seen as much energy in a gathering of public health professionals as this speech. The theme of the conference was around Social Justice and I think Dr. West knows a thing or two about that subject. After introducing some of the leaders at the event, he drops some knowledge. Now I’m not fully aware of all of Dr. West’s political leanings or beliefs, but here at the APHA event, I can say that more of this is needed.
Pay particular attention to the last minute of the video discussing the origins of public health and what needs to be done…
