In the Hokie Guru’s dreams, he’s a rock star:
Rockin’ with Dokken
Ratt
Point Break, including a young Keanu Reeves
Them Damn Yankees, a wild supergroup including Tommy Show, Ted Nugent, Jack Blades, and Michael Cartellone.
Those were the days 🙂
Rant: Manny, you are a loser.
Message to National Basketball Assocation (NBA) and National Hockey League (NHL) Executives: Please ensure your playoff series go seven games in order to delay televising major league baseball as long as humanly possible.
Okay, the Hokie Guru’s got that out of his system… let’s start bloggin’ 🙂 First, we will talk about some government stuff because the Hokie Guru knows that Govloop liks this (after all, this is a government web site). On May 6, 2009, the Hokie Guru completed the last accounting class required for conversion to the auditor in the federal government. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) requirements for the auditor series are right here. By the end of the May, the Hokie Guru’s job series will officially change. Why is this good? In the federal governemnt, the more job series that you can apply under, the better. For more on OPM qualification standards, please see the links here.
Now, the Hokie Guru might decide to study for the Virginia Board of Accountancy Certified Public Accountant (CPA) examination (requirements here) Candidates must obtain 150 semester hours to sit for the CPA Exam in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As part of those 150 semester hours, students must have 30 hours of accounting and 24 hours of business (more here). The Hokie Guru, however, would have to obtain 12 more semester hours of accounting… and he’s tired 🙂 However, just a note, it is good to have professional certifications in combination with your experience… it makes your resume look good and might be a difference-maker between you and another candidate for future jobs. Just a thought… great career advice, eh? Something you didn’t think you’d get in a sports blog.
NBA Playoffs
To be honest, there’s not a whole lot to review here…
1.) Denver is up 3-0 on Dallas. Done.
2.) Cleveland is up 3-0 on Atlanta. Over.
3.) Boston is an old team playing Orlando Orlando leads the series 2-1.
4.) The Los Angeles Lakers are up 2-1 on the Houston Rockets. A very, very physical series.
The Hokie Guru is staying with the Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals… with the Lakers winning it all… but it might be nice to see a new generation win the NBA finals, so the Hokie Guru would’t be bothered with a Cavs win, but doesn’t think it will happen this year.
NHL Playoffs
The Hokie Guru loves hockey…
1.) Carolina is up 3-1 on Boston (Boo Yah)… this is the upset of the NHL playoffs… you see, Boston is the #1 team in the league… and they are going home early.
2.) Pittsburgh leads Washington 3-2 – In arguably the best NHL playoff series, the Caps must win or go home. The two best players in the NHL, including Pitt’s Sydney Crosby and Washington’s Alex Ovechkin, are putting on a show for the ages. Something tells the Hokie Guru that Washington will win on the road at Pitt and take this series back to Washington.
3.) Chicago and Vancover tied at 2-2 – I know very little about eithe team, other than the fact that the captain of the Chcago Blackhawks, Jonathon Toews (only 21), is an alumni of the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux. North Dakota is the Hokie Guru’s home state… right now, you can predict who the Hokie Guru is pullin’ for.
4.) Detroit and Anaheim tied at 2-2 – Hockey in California?
No one saw Boston out this early… not the Hokie Guru, that’s for sure… if you get the time, watch some hockey. No predictions here… all of these series are exciting and could go seven games… which is fun 🙂
Post Spring Practice – NCAA Division I Football Rankings
And here are CNNSI’s rankings (courtesy of Andy Staples). Familiar team at #5… GO HOKIES 🙂
Have a great weekend… RIP Chuck Daly.
I agree – NBA and NHL playoffs should go as long as possible. There’s nothing as painful as the lull after NBA/NHL and before college football.
Cavs in 7….
