Face, govies… we all love the litte guy…
Everyone cheers for David…
And that’s why we love college football!!
Here are six non-Bowl Championship Series (BCS) teams that you, the college football fan, should cheer for this year:
1.) Boise State – Clearly, the class of the class of the non-BCS teams. In ten years, Boise State has 108 wins, three unbeaten regular seasons in the last five, and a huge win over Oklahoma in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl. The Broncos are no longer a mid-major and it’s time to take them seriously. Kellen Moore is the best quarterback you’ve never heard of. Boise State always seems to find a tough as nails offensive line… and it has an offensive wizzard in head coach, Chris Petersen. Here’s the magician at work:
Guess what… early pick… Boise State takes on Oregon right out of the barn on September 5, 2009 in Boise… and they’re gonna win on the Smurf Turf… and make the BCS furious!! I love it!!
2.) Texas Christian University (TCU) – Now is the time for head coach, Gary Patterson, one of the best defensive minds in the country. Last year, Patterson’s TCU team was stone cold on D. TCU’s offense? Well, TCU has always had a great running game… but the passing game needs to get better (and an excellent will help). The Hokie Guru fully expects TCU to win it’s first six games (including Virginia and Clemson, two Atlantic Coast Conferece teams) enroute to a huge matcup on October 24 with Brigham Young University (BYU). The Hokie Guru expects TCU to win the Mountian West Conference (MWC) this year.
3.) BYU – The BYU Cougars are the Hokie Guru’s 2nd MWC team of our six non-BCS on Govloop. The Cougars also have the best non-BCS quarterback in Max Hall. BYU has always had a strong history of good quarterback play (e.g. Steve Young, Ty Detmer, Jim McMahan, Steve Sarkisan), so this is nothing new. The knock on BYU is, well, can they win the big game? The Cougars are gonna have a couple shots at that this year and the Hokie Guru will give you an early pick… they will beat Florida $tate Univer$ity.
4.) Utah – Well, what do you do for on encore?
And Utah throttled Alabama in the Sugar Bowl… that was no upset… they took ‘Bama to the woodshed. The Utes are the Hokie Guru’s third MWC in our six non-BCS gems here on Govloop. The Utes lost their cornerbacks to graduation, but reloaded so they should be okay at that postion. They must go on the road to TCU and BYU… which probably means they will be third in the Mountain West… however, if they beat TCU on the road, the rivalry game with BYU will be that much more important.
5.) East Carolina University (ECU) – With 17 returning starters, the ECU Pirates are favor to win Conference USA. Experienced 6th year senior quarterback, Patrick Pinkney, will lead the offense. On November 5, 2009, the Pirates take on Virginia Tech… and this will be a Thursday night matchup on ESPN… ECU… will… be… jacked… this might well be the most important game in school history, which might not be a good thing for Virginia Tech.
6.) Central Michigan University (CMU) – Finally, we look at the Chippewas of CMU. Senior Dan LeFevour (6’3″, 223 lbs.) continues the tradition of great Mid-American Conference (MAC) QBs. There are tough road games at BCS opponents Arizona, at Michigan State, and at Boston College (don’t be surpised if they win one of these games… particularly the game against Boston College)… there is also the matter of playing on the road at in-state rival, Western Michigan. But the Chippewas look the part of the MAC champion again… and will be a thorn in the sides of those BCS opponents.
Have a great night, folks… be looking this week for the last three previews, including the SEC, the Pac 10, and the Big 12.
