The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (TX) announced plans to release a smart-phone application by the end of the year. Houston TRIP, which stands for transit route information and planner, will allow METRO customers to find bus stops, schedules, and eventually next-bus arrivals. “There are a lot of other transit properties that have similar apps like this,” said Randy Frazier, vice president of IT and CIO. “We want to try to increase the utility of our system, just like everyone else.” Although other apps are available in the marketplace, METRO owns Houston TRIP and will distribute the application free of charge. Real-time arrival information will be available when METRO completes its Safe Bus communications upgrade late next year. Link to full story in Write On METRO.
