President Obama said Tuesday night that he wants to dramatically overhaul the federal government by merging some agencies and departments together.
“We live and do business in the Information Age, but the last major reorganization of the government happened in the age of black-and-white TV,” Obama said during his State of the Union address.
He scored one of his biggest laughs by ticking off examples of government redundancies, noting that 12 agencies deal with exports, at least five deal with housing policy and others deal with food safety.
So, for exports – pick two and merge them and then shut down the others. Same with housing, pick two, merge and close the rest. Food safety – move Dept of Ag food safety to FDA and eliminate all the associated political positions! More later . . .
I would engage the employees (us) in solving the problem rather than imposing it top-down.
Also I would mainstream transparency and social media as the #1 outreach tool.
