As you were probably aware, last week was Public Service Recognition Week. My agency here in Arizona decided to award individuals who give back to their community, and the environment. What interesting organizations they are busy volunteering their time with!
One of our employees spends their off-work time volunteering as a literacy volunteer, and trains volunteers to tutor adults who haven’t mastered reading and writing that are lawfully here in the United States two evenings a week.
Another of our employees was recognized for their community and enviornmental service, where she is among the Phoenix area’s leaders in the Cheetah Conservation Fund organization which is an internal organization involved in research cheetash and their ecosystem. She is also involved with several Veterans’ rights organizations to support our troops. Guess what, there’s more! This great volunteer assists Spanish-speaking voters on Election Day to help Spanish-speaking citizens with their right to vote!
Finally, one of our employees was recognized for their enviornmental community service. He is originally from Bangladesh, and has formed a non-profit to make his contrymen aware of enviornmental problems and solutions to them. He is also involved with a side project collecting donated laptops in the U.S. to distribute to the college environmental clubs in Bangladesh to make communication easier.
What great examples of selfless volunterism, and making the world a better place. Get inspired…volunteer yourself!
Great post! Yay volunteering! If you need help finding out how – find a volunteer center near you! HandsOn Network and the Corporation for National and Community Service are good resources as well as Network For Good
