Internet Technology – A New Bargaining Chip For Diplomacy

Internet technology has become a valuable card in delegations between the United States and countries who now want more modernization in return for better economic trade ties. Technology does not come so easy though. The Obama Administration is urging that countries like Syria, and India agree to loosen government censorship before continuing with agreements.

IT gurus like Alec Ross, a former technology advisor for President Obama, and Jared Cohen, member of the Secretary of State’s Policy Planning Staff, are at the forefront of a digital age of diplomacy. They are the men with whom the telecom ministers and recently appointed e-commerce administrators in newly modernizing countries want to talk business. CNN calls it, ” a delegation of Silicon Valley.”
