The General Services Administration could reduce the scope of or terminate some existing contracts with the Public Building Service as a result of the government shutdown.
Jennifer Smith, PBS acting deputy assistant commissioner for acquisition management, told industry partners in an Oct. 2 letter the lack of a fiscal year 2014 budget has caused a lapse in funding for planned acquisitions and reduced GSA’s capacity to maintain current PBS contracts.
“As a consequence of the lapse, certain planned procurements may be cancelled and certain existing PBS contracts may be stopped, reduced in scope, terminated or partially terminated,” Smith said.
Contracting officers will send notices of compliance to contractors if any of their contracts are cancelled, Smith said.
