True, it has to start with good leadership that recognizes and trusts their employees, but you also have to work above your pay grade. At my last organization, I was only an analyst, but had tremendous impact on the organization well above my pay grade/responsibilities. I was fortunate to have a boss who supported me and went to bat for me because my style certainly didn’t play with everyone – especially those who placed an emphasis on seniority over ingenuity.
It really does require an acknowledgement from the top that those at the bottom are closer (and therefore better suited to solve) the problems. How to get that buy in… i’m not sure. But I’d love to hear ideas.
