NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament (Day #2), Western Collegiate Hockey Assocation Tournament, and the NIT (sigh)

Yesterday, the madness began with Cleveland State in the south, the west with Whiskey, and the east with tiny Siena College.

This is why the country loves March Madness; teams like Cleveland State University and Siena can capture the nation’s heart in a matter of weeks. Cleveland State University is a young urban institution (with that George Mason appeal); it opened it’s doors in 1964. Siena College is a small Franciscan and Catholic liberal arts college in Loudonville, NY.

The Hokie Guru won’t lie; he was happy to see Ohio State go down in flames.

Also, the nation now knows North Dakota State’s Ben Woodside. Kansas coach, Bill Self, was pleased that his Jayhawks held Woodside to 37 points. Some are comparing the young Woodside to Steve Nash. Pretty good company for a North Dakotan… after all, Steve Nash is from Canada and North Dakota (the Hokie Guru’s home state) is fairly close to that country 🙂

One thing is crystal clear… the Big East is the best conference in basketball… the Big East went 6-1 in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

Day 2 of the Govloop bracket challenge… a four way tie for first (Govloop leading the way)… three-way tie for 5th… everyone still in it.

Western Collegiate Hockey Assocation (WCHA) Tournament

The Hokie Guru will make this brief… yesterday, he picked Wisconsin and North Dakota to win in the WCHA semifinals. Clearly, the Hokie Guru was wrong as both teams took it on the chin 3-0. Let’s just say that Denver beats University of Minnesota at Duluth tonight.

Also, here’s a look at the latest bracktology for the NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament… bids should be annouced tomorrow… on a cable company or dish provider that actually has ESPNU.

National Invitational Tournament

The Virginia Tech Hokies were thunderstruck in a second round National Invitational Tournament (NIT) today. The NCAA Tournament Selection Committee made great decisions this year; the Hokies did not deserve a bid. That was even more evident today after the beatdown that Baylor gave the Hokies in the ‘Burg.

Now, they can clean out the locker room and prepare for another NIT bid next year:

Has football started yet? lol

Have great day, Govloopers!!
