General Alexander is hoping to see some movement on the cybersecurity legislation next year.
Here are the top cyber news and stories of the day.
- A Joint Working Group has been set up to create a roadmap for cyber security in India – This group will work with the Indian government and private sector to “address the risks emanating from operating in cyberspace.” India is becoming a huge player in cyber and some organization and leadership is necessary. - Federal Computer Weekly has an article titled “Assessing the state of the CIO” discussing how federal CIOs spend their time and what they are getting done – Camille Tuutti wrote an enlightened post taking a look at what is happening in the federal marketplace. Here.
- The Air Force Academy scored first in undergraduate cyber competition – of the 331 undergraduate teams in the most recent “capture the flag” tournament, the AFA placed first (and 8th out of all the 1,212 total teams). Via Colorado Spring Business Journal, more here.
- DoD and Pentagon official claim that ‘Iran’s behind cyber attacks’ – We’ve mentioned previously the attacks on financial institutions, and now the DoD is attributed these coordinated attacks on Iran. Senator Joe Liberman told C-SPAN this; “I don’t believe these were just hackers who were skilled enough to cause a disruption of the websites. I think this was done by Iran and the Quds Force, which has its own developing cyber attack capacity. And I believe it was in response to the increasingly strong economic sanctions that the United States and our European allies have put on Iranian financial institutions” Via Digital Journal, more here.
- General Alexander is expecting cybersecurity legislation next year – He was quoted as saying, “I think we’re going to solve this over the next six months,” at the GEOINT symposium. This legislation failed this year, but it appears some progress has been made. Via Defense Systems, more here.
