From the CDC
In response to an intensifying outbreak in the United States and internationally caused by a new influenza virus of swine origin, the World Health Organization raised the worldwide pandemic alert level to Phase 5. on April 29, 2009. A Phase 5 alert is a “strong signal that a pandemic is imminent and that the time to finalize the organization, communication, and implementation of the planned mitigation measures is short.”
If you are looking for an easy way to provide your social network or your website visitors with easy access to up to the date official government information, I encourage you to visit PandemicFlu.gov (website managed by the Dept. of HHS) and grab the widget that is in the upper right hand corner of the page.
You can also visit this link to grab code to embed on your site which includes some extra features for better accessibility.
The widget streams the same updates that you will receive if you signup for PandemicFlu.gov News Releases by email. The entire HHS.gov Web team is working very hard to bring together the most current information at this critical time.
The widget is being improved daily. If you have any feedback, leave comments on this blog post. I am working with the HHS.gov team and can pass along the feedback.
If you use the GovDelivery Email & Digital Subscription Management platform to manage outbound digital communication at your agency, you can visit here for recommended (no cost) actions to help your outreach to the public during this outbreak.
