The White House and the National Institute of Standards and Technology are collecting feedback on a preliminary set of cybersecurity standards for the private sector.
This voluntary framework seeks to provide commercial and government organizations a common language to share cyber risk management strategies, according to a White House blog post published Tuesday by NIST Director Patrick Gallagher and White House Cybersecurity Director Michael Daniel.
Gallagher and Daniel wrote the government wants the guidelines to help private companies safeguard critical infrastructure against cyber attacks.
NIST will host a workshop Nov. 14 and Nov. 15 to discuss implementation and future governance of the framework.
Citizens and industry stakeholders have 45 days to submit comments.
