We went to see the new Star Trek movie this past Friday. We loved it. My husband and I have been trekkies since we watched the original series in the 60’s. (My but we are getting up there in age.) Our kids have been interested in the Star Trek movies as they came out. Our older son also spent five hours or more a day when he was away at college watching the Next Generation and Deep Space Nine. So, while he won’t admit it, our older son is a closet Trekkie. We liked the actors playing the younger versions of all the familiar characters, the plot was interesting, and the special effects were awesome. One of the niggling details that did bother my husband and me was the Vulcan greeting, “Live long and prosper.” The proper first greeting should be, “Peace and long life,” which is then responded to with, “Live long and prosper.” A little detail and all in all not that much of a deal breaker, but we old school Trekkies do want our Trek details traditional.

Was a fun movie!
The actors and their portrayals were pretty good even if they were not channelling the original actors. On a side note – my husband and I occaisionally debate the issue whether teleportation technology would actually work or not.
