This four-part series gives insight into the project management professional certification exam. The first article covered helpful study tips. The second article shared what I did the last 24-hours before my exam. Last week, you met two additional certified project management professionals. This week, and the final installment, lists free study tools to help you prepare.
Free Study Tools
The sheer volume of free study tools available is amazing. I’m sure there are many more, but you may find these helpful.
Video Series (24/7 ProLearn PMP®)
Watch a YouTube series of in-depth online videos. This particular course is based on the fifth edition of the PMBOK Guide.
Quizlet
This free study tool was very helpful for learning vocabulary. In addition to creating a virtual index card for each definition, you can do matching and fill-in-the blank quizzes. Tip: Create your own flash cards instead of using someone else’s. If the previously created flash cards have errors, this may affect your leaning. Watch the tutorial video. Then, Sign up for an account. A free mobile app is also available through the App Store and Google Play. This was one of my favorite free study tools.
Library Card
Check your local library. If you are in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, the DC Public Library has free study tools you can use. Through its goDigital portal, you can access Lynda.com, an online library of high-quality instructional videos taught by industry experts.
Bonus: Maintain Certification
Some of the same resources you use to study for the exam can also help you maintain your certification. For example, use your library card: check out project management books to read or take online project management classes from Lynda.com. Likewise, YouTube has a full-array of videos to watch.
Last Words
Hopefully this four-part series has given you a deeper understanding of how to prepare for the project management professional certification exam. You can do this. Good luck.
