Flying DEN to SLC last month, I met University of Utah public health professor Christy Porucznik. It was a convenient introduction; she was heading back to Salt Lake City after attending the APHA Annual Meeting, and I was looking for help making videos for SLVHD-TV, Salt Lake Valley Health Department’s YouTube channel.
Porucznik and her colleague, Dr. Jessica Greenwood, teach a public health rotation that incorporates “service learning” and familiarizes medical students with new media approaches and the importance of public health messaging. To fulfill the service learning project, students were asked to shoot, edit and produce (with help, of course!) a public health video for SLVHD-TV. I was ecstatic to screen the videos and can’t wait to share them with you! If you find them interesting, I hope you’ll pass them along.
