The SLA 2011 Leadership Summit is taking place in Washington,DC from January 19 – 22nd. The Summit theme is — Future Ready: Building Community. The programs focus on building, expanding, and enhancing our professional communities. One of the things that I find when going to a conference like this is that although the programs are focused on building leadership strategies and skills within the association, they can be used within other areas of your personal and professional life. Of course, a big part of the Summit is what you learn from all the leaders in attendance. They are full of good ideas and energy and have a strong desire to serve their community.
Being “future ready” (the theme of the upcoming SLA 2011 Conference in Philadelphia this summer) means many things for a professional association and its membership including:
- Actively building community locally, remotely and virtually
- Using social media effectively
- Expanding the community beyond current membership
- Enhancing the community that we build
- Re-think our community for 2011 and beyond
- Recognizing the accomplishments of our peers
- Thinking strategically about our community’s finances
- Connecting with our colleagues
If you are the SLA Leadership Summit, I hope to see you in the sessions.
