Social media management software: The next step in public safety?

Two weeks ago, the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) issued a request for information (RFI) for social media management platforms. The IEMA seeks information regarding integrating and pushing content to multiple social media services, tracking conversations with the ability to respond, and monitoring multiple social media services with analytics capabilities. Social media currently used by the agency includes YouTube, Twitter and Facebook. It is unclear at this point in the RFI process what the IEMA will utilize in order to track social media usage, but one thing is clear: social media within the public safety arena is beginning to take off.
