The Army’s Command Post of the Future (CPOF)

Leaders on the ground at the attack on Lybia last year used maps and images provided by the Command Post of the Future (CPOF). The Army uses a set of digital maps downloaded on the CPOF to assist with constructing the common operating picture of an area. “Project Manager Mission Command, or PM MC, is helping to streamline the delivery of maps and imagery through the use of specialized geospatial products”. First Unit Readies for Afghanistan With New Network

The 10th Mountain Division has been given the go ahead to utilize a mobile network when they deploy to Afghanistan later this year. The Capability Set 13 or CS 13 has the capabilities of allowing leaders to “exchange information and execute mission command using mobile communications technologies, rather than having to remain in a fixed location to access the network”. The Dismounted Soldier Training System (DSST) provides this type of training at Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center, Ind. Cisco and Cloud Computing

The giant network vendor wants to establish a presence in cloud technology. Cisco will use their Unified Computing System (UCS) as a means to introduce the idea. Blade servers with fabrication capabilities or rackmount servers, and multiprotocol switches are used to connect servers and storage. Both options will combine the virtualization of software and cloud tools to develop virtualized data centers. A Cisco-base cloud will be used to interact with the virtualized data centers. A benefit to using Cisco in cloud computing is using the current Cisco base in your infrastructure. Additional and specialized training for employees will not be a necessity. “This could provide better performance and reduce total cost of ownership (TCO)”. Click here to read this article
