Sheila C. Blair is the Chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Created by Congress in 1933 to restore public confidence in the nation’s banking system, the FDIC insures deposits at the nation’s 7,830 banks and savings associations. Bair has an extensive background in banking and finance, and her career has taken her from Capitol Hill to academia and government.
