Large caps were virtually flat this week as small caps led with modest gains. The short week had mixed action but the greatest movement came Tuesday when the Turkish military shot down a Russian fighter jet over Syria. The S&P 500 opened down after the news but buyers shrugged it off before noon and the index was back to about where it started for the week and held close to that price for the remaining of the week.
The S-fund led with modest gains while the I-fund was the only TSP fund in negative territory for the week.
Here are the weekly, monthly, and annual TSP fund returns for the week ending November 27th:
The SPY (S&P 500 / C-fund) flattened out this short holiday week after the big gains the previous week. The overhead resistance was not tested as expected with the holiday action throwing off technical expectations. There is rising support just below if things turn south at Monday’s open. The C-fund had a slight gain of 0.09% for the week.
The Dow Completion Index (S-fund) led the TSP funds this week up 1.7%. The index closed at its 200-day EMA Friday which held as resistance at the beginning of the month. On Monday we’ll see what is stronger between the current rising trend and the resistance of the 200-day EMA.
EFA (EAFE Index / I-fund) was down for the week with strength in the dollar but has held close to its 50-day EMA which has minimized its losses. The index is still holding off from filling the open gap from below which has been open since early October. The I-fund was down 0.47% for the week.
AGG (Bonds / F-fund) has not broken through its extended bear flag yet but did get some pressure from rising resistance this week which is kept it at the bottom of the flag. However the bottom of the flag continues to unexpectedly hold as support for bonds and the F-fund had a slight gain of 0.14% for the week.
