Got David? We sure do here!!
But first, the Hokie Guru’s new favorite guitarist… Paul Gilbert… get out of my yard…
Paul Gilbert is amazing
And so is Yngwie Malmsteen.
The University of South Florida Bulls (David) just defeated the top team in Big East Conference, the Marquette University Golden Eagles (Goliath). The game summary is right here. This is the best win in the history of the Bull’s program. Hopefully, GovLoop was there. Update: GovLoop was there. Here are the last six minutes of the game:
The Hokie Guru flips back and forth the best men’s basketball conferene in NCAA Division I athletics. Is it the Big East Conference? Is it the Atlantic Coast Conference? Can the worst team in the Big East beat the best team? Likely not. DePaul University would not beat the University of Connecticut. Can the worst team in the Atlantic Coast Conference beat the best team? The Hokie Guru would argue that this can and has happened this year. However, the Big East has more teams than the Atlantic Coast Conference in the latest Associated Press Top 25 Poll. This debate will not be settled until March when the Madness begins.
And speaking of the Madness, The Hokie Guru (perhaps in coordination with GovLoop, the founder of this site), will host a Yahoo Bracket Challenge, “Beat the Hokie Guru.” If you enter one bracket challenge this year, make sure you do it here at GovLoop!!
Let’s step back in time:
Yep, when Chevy Chase is on… he’s on.
The Hokie Guru will be in Blacksburg, VA for this weekend’s game with North Carolina State University. The Hokie Guru hopes he sees a dunk like this:
ESPN’s Mike Patrick: Greg Paulus playing the role of high hurdle.
On, Saturday, February 7, 2009 games, we have some really good college basketball games… the Hokie Guru is focused on two games (one on the East Coast and one in the West)… here are the picks:
1.) University of Miami Hurricanes at #4 Duke University Blue Devils – If you didn’t know, Duke was absolutely embarrassed (blown out, trashed, trounced… fill in your synonym in the comments below) by a vastly superior Clemson University Tiger basketball team earlier this week (recap here). The Hokie Guru likes Miami a lot and might normally pick an upset in this type of game even though it is at Duke’s Cameron Indoor Stadium. Not this week… Duke is going to be very angry and Coack K will be challenging the manhood of his players. Duke wins in a blowout.
2.) #14 University of Memphis Tigers at #18 University of Gonzaga Zags – These two teams are the best mid-major basketball teams in the country (although, they really aren’t mid-major… the Hokie Guru only calls them mid-major because they do not hail from the BCS conference). Memphis has won 13 of 14 games; Gonzaga has won nine straight games. The Hokie Guru expects both teams to make the Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament. Both teams are very evenly matched. There is a great game preview right here. The Hokie Guru will take the easy way out and pick the home team when in doubt… Gonzaga wins!!
Let’s close the deal here…national college football signing day was on February 4, 2009… and the SEC won big!! 10 SEC schools are part Rivals’ Top 25 NCAA Football Division I recruiting classes. And that, my readers, is why the SEC is the best conference in all of college football… it kind of makes the Hokie Guru a little envious (side note: Virginia Tech cracked the top 25).
Remember… find your center, Danny, be the ball…
A flute without holes is not a flute… a donut with no hole is a danish…
Have a great week!! 🙂
Unbelievable. South Florida. Big East record: 3-7. Just a stunning upset. Always will have a soft spot for Marquette. Al McGuire, 1977 NCAA Champs. McGuire was one-of-a-kind. What a team . It was like watching a clinic on how to play basketball.
GovLoop was there to see his USF Bulls hold-on. I was scared as they always choke on me but they didn’t. Best part was it was faculty night so tickets were $5. Glad to see the HG loves Caddyshack as much as I do.
GovLoop, I jus added some video from the USF’s game.
Dear Guru, I forgot to say that I have never seen anything like Johnson jumping over Paulus.
