Virginia picks up speed with health benefit exchange efforts

It looks like Virginia is no longer taking a back seat in setting up a health insurance exchange. Between the Supreme Court ruling, which kicks off today, and the looming 2014 deadline, the state has been making moves toward setting up mandatory requirements under the health care law. Well aware of the short time frame, Governor McDonnell’s administration has been coordinating efforts to make sure the state will be ready to implement a state-run exchange by 2014. The state plans to request proposals next month for a new information system that will handle Medicaid and other services such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
