This is probably a first that social networking is being rolled out to rebuild a country. Just after the earthquake, CrisisCommons went in – and with one of it’s projects – helped Haiti to get started with using Ning. The New Haiti Project has actually turned into a long term program, based around the evolution of Internet tools, which are free. Part of what helps the situation is that so many of the people from Haiti are young. This is going to be an interesting activity to watch if you are interested in the organic development of Web 2.0 environments. Feel free to join and collaborate, while this is a Haiti driven effort, it is a world wide program.
