The Washington Post Reports that USA Jobs will be getting new features to make the job application process easier. Between October 6 and12 the Office of Personnel Management will transfer data from monster.com to internal hosting due to cybersecurity concerns. During this time the site will be offline and no new jobs will be posted.
Lisa Rien of The Washington Post reported that the upgrades to the site and moving USAJobs.gov in-house will provide some savings for the agency:
“The site [USAJobs.Gov] costs about $6 million a year to operate, officials with OPM said. The agency is investing another $6 million in upgrades this year, but expects to see a savings of $5 million over five years from bringing the site in-house, spokesman Edmund D. Byrnes said.”
The upgrades to USAJobs.gov are desperately needed. The new site will also provide the opportunity for agencies to improve how they do job recruitment and mine data for prospective employees. Other features is that job applicants will not have to enter personal and professional data multiple times while applying for positions. Applicants will also be notified of the status of their application.
