USAJOBS has extended deadlines for job seekers interested in non-emergency positions. The Washington Post reports that OPM staff is working around the clock to fix code bugs and related problems on the USAJOBS site. On Wednesday, a contractor was hired to test the site and was still witnessing a 86% failure rate. The Washington Post Reports:
Officials with Avue Technologies said they tried 358 searches during a five-hour period Wednesday afternoon. Users were either locked out or their queries for job postings were unsuccessful, a company official said.
The Washington Post also reports that Monster.com has offered to host federal jobs for free for the next 30 days. Officials say that although offering the free service is a nice gesture, it may ultimately create more confusion for agencies and job applicants. OPM spent nearly 18 months working on a revamp of the site, but the Post reports that the high traffic volume blindsided officals and has crippled performance.
