Travis County Sheriff’s Office in Austin, Texas has grown to 1.3 million citizens, but until recently didn’t have the right technology to properly track deputies in the field. By moving to Google Maps Coordinate, they are able to track deputies in real-time on their individual devices, which makes protecting citizens and law enforcement officers much easier. In the event of a natural disaster or emergency, every second matters. After the 2007 wildfires struck Southern California and 500,000 people were told to evacuate their homes, the Red Cross- San Diego Chapter decided they could do more to be better prepared. They implemented a new response system for volunteers and the public using Google Earth and Maps. Every month, an average of one million vehicles cross the three bridges near Niagara Falls. The Niagara International Transportation Technology Coalition (NITTEC) is where visitors turn for traffic and safety notifications. With the help of Google Maps, they developed a new multilayered map that includes information from construction projects, delays and border crossing time. Every ten years, the U.S. Census Bureau counts every single person in America. It’s important the information is as accurate as possible because that data is used for everything- from from setting voting districts to population spending. Amtrak helps over 31 million passengers every year reach their destinations. To provide more accurate and updated information on train locations and arrival times, they developed an interactive train locator map using Google Maps Engine.
