Every year the Bethesda chapter of AFCEA hosts the A Night for the Children Gala. The annual event helps raise money for the Children’s Inn at NIH and the House of Ruth. If you haven’t heard about either organization, you are missing out. The Children’s Inn houses kids and their families who are undergoing treatment at NIH. The House of Ruth assists more than 1,000 women and children who were homeless and abused.
Haden Land is VP of Engineering and CTO for Lockheed Martin Information Systems & Global Solutions, Civil. He is also an active member of AFCEA and is helping to plan the gala.
He told Chris Dorobek on the DorobekINSIDER program how you can help out with these two great causes.
“A Night for the Children Gala brings together industry leaders and top level government executives to support and celebrate the mission of the gala,” said Land. “These organizations, both of them, assist children facing rare health conditions, homelessness and abuse. Nearly 75% of the families residing at the House of Ruth are able to move into independent housing after their stay and engagement. The Children’s Inn at NIH offers a comfortable place for children to stay with their families, free of charge, while they are receiving treatment at NIH.”
In the past 15 years the gala has raised more than six million dollars.
How can you get involved?
“The gala will take place on Saturday March 22nd at the Marriott Washington. There are many ways to participate in the gala and support the gala’s charities which include sponsorships, volunteering, attending the event, donating auction items, and purchasing raffle tickets. Really anyone who is interested can help,” said Land.
