As agencies step up their efforts to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-based tools, they are quickly realizing they need to focus on the data that will drive those solutions. The challenge is not gathering enough data. It’s ensuring their data consistently adheres to key governance practices, including data, security and interoperability.
“In the conversations we’re having with large organizations, there’s a lot of caution around AI,” said Andrew Churchill, Vice President for Public Sector at Qlik, which provides a data integration, analytics, and artificial intelligence platform. “I think much of that is them not being terribly certain about how they will control where AI is applied, to which data sets.”
In some cases, agencies need to focus on the fundamentals of data management, such as data hygiene, said Piyush Bothra, Area Principal for Independent Software Vendors at Amazon Web Services. “It’s like your car: If you don’t change the oil regularly, you’re going to have problems down the line.”
