I’ve been grateful enough that several student groups have asked the assistance of Orange Husky Productions. OHP is a fictitious (but very real to me!) student group that a friend and I started – we make movies/promos for Maxwell School student groups. It’s a funny story how we founded the “company” and thought of the idea – we are planning on making a documentary about our company history, so I won’t reveal any spoilers. It’s essentially an inside joke that we ran with.
We use iMovie and try to keep things pretty simple. The goal of Orange Husky is simple – get people talking and excited to come out to conferences and events. We’ve made a bunch of videos now, some serious, some comical – all trying to promote awareness of all the great events student organizations are sponsoring.
This week there is a great event that COMPAS (Coalition of Multicultural Public Affairs Students) is sponsoring – The Inclusive Governance Conference. Below is some more information about the conference and a quick video promoting the event.
Here is the overview for the conference on Friday, April 8. Please see the schedule below and note that all events are in Eggers 220 (Public Events Room):
The IGC is unique in that its panel and workshop format will not only inform the Maxwell community of diversity challenges facing those entering the workforce, but will also provide participants with specific methods, behaviors, and policies effective in counteracting bias/prejudice. Panelists will discuss current issues facing organizations tasked with serving the public at all levels of governance and detailing successful strategies that can be utilized to create a more inclusive workplace.
The conference day will be split into two halves: first, a skills-based morning session that will be centered on human resource management, cultural competency, and citizen participation. The second half of the day will contain a student led policy forum on the issue of immigration and recent reform efforts. The day will conclude with a keynote address that will provide a vision detailing how citizen-centered governance can become a reality in the coming years.
IGC is organized by the Maxwell School’s Coalition of Multicultural Public Affairs Students (COMPAS) of Syracuse University.
