Last week as we posted on GovLoop, Federal CIO Steven VanRoekel launched the call for feedback on the National Dialogue on Mobility Strategy.
A week later let’s look the top 3 most popular suggestions are:
–Develop a shared services catalogue
–Encourage Bring Your Own Device policies(see GL discussion thread on Bring Your Own Device)
My three other favorites are:
–Adopt html 5 – Do we even need apps? Can html 5 be the solution
–Focus on APIs and Web platforms – I think this is a big one. One piece I see missing in this dialogue is I think most people are assuming government will be building most of the government-related apps. I actually don’t think this is the case. Most of the mobile strategy should be executed by folks outside gov’t.
–Know the audience – Mobile is a unique platform and we need to make sure we know our audience and how they want to use the mobile device. Before running out and building mobile solutions, I think we need to spend more time on how people even want to consume and use mobile.
