I am looking forward to attending the FOSE Conference April 3-5 in Washington DC. This is the third post in a blog series highlighting the 2012 conference tracks. Throughout this week I have been highlighting one of the tracks and provided some insights to what you can expect to see at FOSE 2012. The five tracks for the event are Cybsecurity, Cloud and Virtualization, Mobile, Defense Innovations and Records and Information Management. The third track to be highlighted is Mobile.
With smartphones and tablets being used by citizens and government employees in their daily lives, there has become a new pressure on government to provide the right technology infrastructures to provide for an increasing mobile world. Citizens are beginning to demand that services be available in a mobile friendly environment. Likewise, government employees desire to be able to access data and information across multiple platforms.
FOSE describes what you can expect to find throughout the mobility track:
Smart phones and tablets offer a new way for agencies to communicate with citizens, and will likely become a common method for conducting the business of government. Advanced mobility has enormous savings potential, always appealing in a tough budget environment. Still, allowing these mobile devices into the enterprise presents challenges in areas such as the mobile ecosystem, security, IT infrastructure, and human capital and workforce management. This conference examines these issues from a management and technical perspective – from budgeting and policy issues to mobile device management, application storefronts, and procurement.
The mobile track will provide critical information to attendees on what some of the key challenges are to implement a mobile strategy within government. Below is a summary of one of the sessions. The topic discussion and speakers caught my eye, should be an interesting session:
