If you’re reading this, chances are you’ve already noticed some changes to GovLoop.com’s homepage! We’re thrilled to be able to share our hard work with our community.
In order to help you make the most of the changes, we want to share the “why” behind the redesign. So, let’s dive in, shall we?
Why change the homepage?
Website designs are usually an iterative process and our homepage is no exception! Over the past ten years, the homepage has gone through a bit of a metamorphosis:
We always want to make sure we’re in line with web design best practices and of course, those best practices tend to change over time. Our main objective with this particular re-design was to make sure our community members can access the resources they need in an easy and intuitive way.
By including icons with definitions as the first thing you see once you get to GovLoop.com, we wanted to make it immediately crystal-clear what types of resources we offer. Plus, it helps you get to those resources with the least number of clicks. It wasn’t always abundantly apparent that we have a whole sister site dedicated to professional development, for instance.
Why the new colors?
In addition to making our homepage easier to navigate, we also wanted to make it more consistent with our brand.
GovLoop underwent a total branding overhaul about two years ago, and our own homepage was one of the last pieces of the puzzle to get the update. You’ll notice more white space, lighter colors and a cleaner look on the homepage. GovLoop Academy’s homepage got a similar redesign for consistency.
What’s next?
We’re still making small tweaks and improvements as we gather feedback from our community. We’re also looking at other pages on our website that could use a makeover to improve navigation.
Please feel free to leave a comment if something isn’t rendering correctly or just doesn’t make sense. Our team put a lot of thought, effort, planning and testing into rolling out this homepage redesign but we’re relying on feedback to make sure we got it right.
We hope you are finding the changes helpful, and as always, thank you so much for being part of the GovLoop community! Be sure to check out our slider tool to see the new homepage against the last version:
