In her latest Management Minutes with Mika video, government workforce expert Mika Cross interviewed Angela Bailey, a career civil servant and current CEO of Angela Bailey and Associates, LLC, to discuss her takeaways on resilience upon her retirement and her new path as a motivational speaker.
After spending time in the Office of Personnel Management, Homeland Security, and the Department of Defense, Bailey said she spent the last six years of her career in public service concentrating on the concept of recovery and reset, both physiologically and psychologically, after stressful and challenging events. This journey was attributed to her close work with law enforcement and military employees.
“We have to recognize what depletes us, no matter what level of government we’re in, and learn how to triage and reset ourselves,” she said.
Upon her retirement, Bailey was ready to continue building on those lessons of grit and resilience to share with the public and private sectors, creating Anandalife and offering life coaching, seminars, consults and retreats, in addition to her podcast, “The Story Behind the Story.”
Wrapping up their reflections on her retirement, resilience and continued learning, Cross asked Bailey what she would tell her younger self.
“Just let the journey unfold the way it will – it’s going to be ok,” said Bailey.
