Recently, GovLoop wrapped up its first multi-week online social learning course, titled Your Path to Leadership: Mastering Core Competencies to Get Ahead in Government. The course examined the ten traits of a great government leader listed in this guide. The three week course was grouped into the context of weekly themes and the guide served as a workbook for participants throughout the course. The three themes for the course were:
- Introducing and Implementing New Ideas
- Transforming the Toughest Employees and Teams
- Beyond Doing More With Less: Doing Different
We developed this guide to help you take advantage of the course material to reflect on your leadership style and refocus on how you can improve as a leader. To do so, we have taken some of the best leadership posts from GovLoop, synthesized the content and then put it back into your hands. We share 10 traits of a leader and a corresponding exercise to help you reflect on how you can improve the trait in your career. Our hope is that through each exercise you think critically about yourself as a leader, challenge your behavior and identify strategies for growth. Remember, the process starts with you and your commitment to improve.
You can also download a PDF of the document here.
Over the next few weeks, watch for new posts on each of the three themes listed above. We’ll provide a recap of each week’s theme, an archived recording of each week’s webinar and the presentations used by our great Subject Matter Experts.
Update: You can now access all three posts: 1) Introducing and Implementing New Ideas; 2) Transforming the Toughest Employees and Teams; 3) Beyond Doing More With Less: Doing Different.
