Air pollution is a major threat to our waterways, and it’s especially dangerous to the Chesapeake Bay which is the largest estuary in the United States – 200 miles long from the mouth of the Bay in Virginia Beach, VA to the Susquehanna River near Havre de Grace, MD. The Bay’s watershed includes parts of six states and Washington, D.C. The Bay, however, is surprisingly shallow and therefore very susceptible to pollution.
With the enactment of the Clean Air Act, and the actions implemented to clean up the air, the Bay has certainly benefitted. Through the use of a StoryMap, which is an interactive journal of sorts, it’s easy to showcase the benefits. The StoryMap is an easy and effective way to communicate the concerns of air pollution and water pollution specifically on the Chesapeake.
