Woah…useful alert here!
Ever go to a town meeting in person or virtually only to witness exploding emotion, frustration, and basically pandemonium? Turning these forums around into useful, productive, and encouraging experiences is the goal of the National Coalition for Dialog and Deliberation.
In October of this year, NCDD published a sweet Resource Guide on Public Engagement. It’s chock full of rich resources like Core Principles for Public Engagement, Online Engagement, and Engagement Streams Frameworks. Check it out yourself and enjoy!
If you like what you read, make sure to check out the Facebook page for NCDD – a super dynamic group.
UPDATE:
Glad people are finding this resource so helpful!
Really good document.
I’m so glad GovLoop folks are finding NCDD’s Resource Guide on Public Engagement of use! We put the guide together for 5 regional events we held this past fall which brought together over 700 public engagement practitioners and public administrators. The Guide can always be downloaded from our online Resource Center at http://ncdd.org/rc/item/4471 – and I encourage you guys to check out what else is in the Resource Center (2500 resources on group process). In particular, the Beginner’s Guide at http://ncdd.org/rc/beginners-guide is a good place to start, as is the Best-of-the-Best Resources page at http://ncdd.org/rc/best-of-the-best-resources. We also have a tag called “Great for Public Managers” which is full of gems for people who work in government: http://ncdd.org/rc/item/tag/great-for-public-managers
