The 2019 NextGen Government Training Summit is almost upon us, and everyone from staff to attendees is getting excited. For some people, this may be their second, third, or even tenth time attending the Summit, but for others, this will be their first experience. With that in mind, GovLoop’s Senior Online and Events Editor and NextGen mastermind Emily Jarvis recently shared some helpful tips for those who will be attending for the first time.
- Go to the website and click on 2019 Schedule to view all the speakers! From breakout sessions to workshops to keynotes, find everything you need to know about who will be speaking at the Summit.
- Go over the schedule beforehand so you have an idea of which workshop and breakout sessions you want to attend.
- Having a plan is great, but it doesn’t have to be set in stone—you can change it at the Summit if you see a session that you’d rather attend. There is one session that you have to pre-register for: Skill Up – How to Strategically Integrate Your Strengths. Register by Monday, July 22.*
- Download the app: if you’ve selected sessions, the app will show you your schedule; you can also use it to access a map of the Summit, download slides from all the different sessions, and compete against other attendees in an in-app game with real-life prizes.
- Sign up for Office Hours! This is a chance to get free one-on-one coaching and advice from an expert—the deadline to register is Monday, July 22.*
- Get active on social—top tweeters will have a chance to win prizes, and social media can be a great way to make connections with other attendees. Use #nextgengov to stay engaged.
- Bring your appetite: breakfast and lunch will be served both days, and there will be a reception with appetizers and drinks after the first day.
- Sign up for the NextGen Buddy Program—new this year, this is a chance to get paired up with a fellow attendee for meaningful networking and the chance to build a life-long connection.*
- There will be a ‘recharge room’. Come here to take a break, relax, and tend to the needs of your electronic devices’ batteries.
- Comfort should come first when deciding what to wear; most attendees will be in business casual, but you are free to put the emphasis on the ‘casual’ part. Definitely consider bringing a sweater, since the summer may be hot but the air conditioning can be quite chilly.

See you next Thursday!
