The adage “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” is bad advice when it comes to network infrastructure. In the best-case scenario, agencies relying on outdated infrastructure are simply missing out on recent advances in both networking and security capabilities. In the worst case, they are also running the risk of costly network failures.
These concerns have been heightened by the surge of employees returning to the office, putting more stress on aging equipment, said Tom Van Meter, Senior Director of Sales Engineering for Juniper Networks Federal.
“At some point, your old network infrastructure will cause more problems than it’s worth, and you will need to replace that and get new equipment in,” Van Meter said. “And you don’t want to do it hodgepodge — you need to plan that up in advance.” The good news, he said, is that modern, standards-based network solutions, unlike older proprietary technology, are easier to design, implement and operate.
In this video interview, Van Meter discusses the path to network modernization and how it can support key areas of an agency’s operations.
Topics include:
- Improving the performance and security of mission-critical communications
- Strengthening on-going zero-trust security initiatives
- Improving resilience through intent-based design
