Zero trust has become a thing. You might not know what it means, but you can’t escape hearing about it and its potential to address some of government’s most vexing security challenges. At this point, it might be tempting to tune it out as just so much hype. But that would be a mistake.
The point is not that zero trust is some sort of cure-all for government security. It’s not. There’s no cure-all, and there never will be, because malicious actors are too savvy and adaptable.
That said, zero trust appears to represent an important step forward in how agencies approach security. In particular, the zero trust model might help agencies reduce the vulnerabilities created by cloud computing, mobility and numerous other technological marvels.
